Who we serve
Yes, we’re picky.
LutherHost is for confessional Lutheran churches and the schools they run. Here is what that means, and why we ask.
Confessional, without reservation
We host congregations that subscribe to the Book of Concord of 1580 because it is a faithful exposition of Holy Scripture, not merely insofar as it agrees with Scripture. The old words for this are quia and quatenus, and we mean the first one.
We don’t keep a list of approved synods. We look at the congregation: what it confesses, what it teaches, and how it worships. If you’re not sure whether that describes you, ask us. We’re glad to talk.
Churches and their schools
Day schools, preschools, and other schools run by an eligible congregation are welcome too. Many parish schools need a website as much as the church does, sometimes more.
What we don’t host
Personal blogs, businesses, and organizations that aren’t a congregation or its school. LutherHost exists to support the Church’s work of preaching the Word and administering the Sacraments, and we keep it focused there.
Why we ask
The application asks about your confession. That isn’t red tape; it’s the point. Many churches overpay for web hosting, and we would rather that money went to the ministry. We just want to be sure it’s Lutheran ministry.
Also they teach that one holy Church is to continue forever. The Church is the congregation of saints, in which the Gospel is rightly taught and the Sacraments are rightly administered.
