Questions

Questions and answers

Plain answers to what churches usually ask us. If yours isn’t here, ask us.

Is it really free?

Yes, hosting your website is free. There’s no setup fee and no monthly fee. Your members give their offerings for the ministry of Word and Sacrament, and we would rather it stayed there than went to a web host.

Email at your own address is optional and costs $60 per mailbox, per year.

What does email cost?

$60 per mailbox, per year. A mailbox is one address with its own inbox, such as [email protected]. Email is optional, and your website is free whether or not you add it.

Who can use LutherHost?

Confessional Lutheran congregations and the schools affiliated with them. If your congregation subscribes to the Book of Concord without reservation, please apply. Not sure whether you qualify? Ask us.

Can you move our existing website?

Yes. Tell us where your site lives today when you apply, and we’ll help you bring it over, along with your domain name.

Can we use our own domain name?

Yes. Your website uses your congregation’s own domain, such as yourchurch.org, and so does your email if you add it.

What will our website run on?

WordPress, the same platform that runs a large share of the web. It’s simple enough that a church secretary or volunteer can post the weekly bulletin without calling anyone for help.

Who owns our website?

You do. Your words, photos, recordings and sermons belong to your congregation.

How do we get help?

Post on the LutherHost forum or use our contact form. Real people answer, and they’re Lutheran too.

Who runs LutherHost?

LutherHost is a Confident.Faith production. Confident.Faith also publishes daily devotions, the Lutheran lectionary, homilies, and Through the Bible in a Year.

Is the beer clause real?

It is. By using LutherHost, you agree to buy the owner a beer if he ever visits your church. It may not be redeemed more than once a year. See the client agreement.

Ready when you are.

Applying takes about five minutes. We’ll take it from there.
